Mike “The Mouth” Matusow has done well in 2007, making the top 20 in three separate World Series of Poker events, and cashing in twice at the World Poker Tour.

Mike Matusow is known for the many different waits he has of berating and belittling his opponents, and this is the reason he is known as “The Mouth.” His manners at the poker table leave a lot to be desired, and many people dislike him for his offensive ways. Mike “The Mouth” Matusow was born on April 30, 1968 in LA. His competitiveness has helped him out, as he used to win money bowling and playing pool. With his competitive drive now focused on poker, he has proven himself to be one of the best. Mike started his poker career as a dealer, paying attention to the players and what tactics worked and didn’t work. When he felt he was ready, Mike played in a small poker tournament and won the whole thing. After more success in small tournaments, Mike turned into a cash game player, specializing in Omaha Hi/Lo. Mike’s skills in Omaha are well-respected, and he is widely considered to be one of the best Omaha players in the world.

Mike Matusow entered the World Series of Poker in 1997, when he finished second in an Omaha Hi/Lo event. Mike won his first bracelet at the 1999 World Series of Poker in the $3500 No Limit Holdem event. Mike finished 6th in the 2001 WSOP Main Event, but lost his composure after being bluffed by Carlos Mortensen, who would go on to win the event. Mike’s second WSOP bracelet came at an Omaha Hi/Lo event in 2002. Mike did very well in 2005, when he finished 9th in the Main Event and won the Tournament of Champions to become the first player to win two one million dollar prizes in one year.

Mike Matusow was arrested on drug charges had was forced to spend six months from late 2004 to early 2005 in jail after he refused to help police nab more suspects by wearing a hidden microphone. Mike feared for his life if he helped the police, and chose jail. After his release, Phil Hellmuth loaned Mike $5000 to rebuild his poker career.
