Chris Ferguson is one of the most popular players at the poker table, thanks in part to his long hair and beard which have earned him the nickname “Jesus.” He is commonly seen wearing a black hat and sunglasses at the poker table. In 2007, Chris cashed five times in the World Series of Poker, including one final table appearance and two more performances in which he came very close to making the final table.
Chris Ferguson was born on April 11, 1963. In fourth grade he lost every cent he had playing poker, and he vowed that he would never go broke again. Chris went to UCLA and continued to go to school there for 18 years, when he was finally kicked out and was sent packing with a Ph.D. in Computer Science. Chris had been playing poker throughout college, and began competing in the World Series of Poker in 1995.
In the year 2000, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson defeated T.J. Cloutier in heads-up play to win the World Series of Poker Main Event, the most prestigious poker tournament in the world. This was Chris’s second WSOP bracelet, as he won his first earlier that year the $2500 Seven Card Stud Event. Chris has won five bracelets total, his third coming in 2001 at the $1500 Omaha Hi-Lo Split 8s or Better event, and his fourth and fifth bracelets coming in 2003 at the $2000 Omaha Hi-Lo Split 8s or Better and $2000 Half Limit Holdem – Half Seven Card Stud events.
Chris Ferguson also has the ability to slice vegetables with playing cards, so he is also handy in the kitchen. He has sliced and diced pickles, carrots, and more simply by throwing playing cards at them.
