Antonio Esfandiari Biography
Antonio Esfandiari was born on December 8, 1978 in Tehran, Iran. His original name was Amir, but it was changed to Anthony after Antonio’s family moved to California when he was nine and he was harassed by his schoolmates. When he was 19, Antonio changed his name again, this time from Anthony to Antonio.
In 2007, Antonio Esfandiari has merely done ok. He had two strong performances at the World Series of Poker and his biggest win was a 3rd place finish at the William Hill Poker Grand Prix II in Cardiff, UK.
Antonio Esfandiari is also known as “The Magician,” as he was once a professional magician, having dropped out of college to perform amazing feats of magic. Antonio’s poker career began after he was invited to a poker game after one of his shows. Antonio showed that he had a talent for poker, as he won the first tournament he played in, which had a $30 buy-in.
Antonio Esfandiari became the youngest poker player to ever win more than a million dollars when he won the Main Event of the LA Poker Classic in 2004. Also in 2004, Antonio won his first World Series of Poker bracelet when he emerged victorious from the $2000 Pot Limit Holdem event. Antonio has done very well at the World Poker Tour, making several final tables, earning him the right to see on the TV broadcasts.
Antonio isn’t all about poker. He enjoys cooking and would like to own his own restaurant someday. He also almost attended a culinary school instead of going to college.
